Well I got news for you- neither party is offering anything close to change- neither. And from what the currents polls reflect- the only change people really want is color and tone of speech. I guess we haven’t heard that old song: “Rich are Bad and That Ain’t Fair” since Clinton left office. It’s the same song the democrats have been singing for years (not that I’m particularly in love with the Republican’s song either: “I, Me Mine”).

You know- we all want change- and a good dose of truth would be a good place to start.

First Mr. Trickle Down (John McCain):

McCain wants tax breaks across the board- from the rich to the “barley making it”. The idea is tax breaks for the rich will translate to more investments- and tax breaks for the “barley making it” means more money at the end of the month. In other words- the rich invest- expand business which creates more jobs for the middle class.

Second Robin Hood: (Barack Obama)

Obama wants more tax on the rich. This extra tax on the rich will be redistributed to those not so rich- and also be used to fund government programs to address the energy crisis- economy- health care etc, etc…

The reality:

What I’ve seen these past few days with The Trickle Down approach is- with the help of the government- the rich abuse their power- become even more greedy- and eventually bankrupt Wallstreet.

What I’ve seen of the Robin Hood approach in the 40 odd years I’ve lived is: government grows- regulation on businesses increase- and the economy suffers. I remember when Bill Clinton proposed a similar plan to increase taxes on the rich- but what happened was- in an overnight session President Clinton redefined “rich” and a good portion of the middle class Americans woke to find their taxes had also increased.

Personally:

There are aspects of both I don’t like. Giving greedy men control over the economy without being regulated is like making a drunk a bartender. But on the flip side- taking from the rich to give to the poor- just doesn’t seem right either. I mean whats the point of working hard to succeed only to have 50% taken from you and given to someone else?

NEW YORK CNN – Sarah Palin and the foreign leaders she has met with in New York have said very little to reporters over the last two days, but the press happened to be in the room on Wednesday for one eyebrow-raising exchange, as the new president of Pakistan lavished praise on Palins looks.

On entering a room filled with several Pakistani officials this afternoon, Palin was immediately greeted by Sherry Rehman, the countrys Information Minister.

“And how does one keep looking that good when one is that busy?,” Rehman asked, drawing friendly laughter from the room when she complimented Palin.

“Oh, thank you,” Palin said.

Pakistans recently-elected president, Asif Ali Zardari, entered the room seconds later. Palin rose to shake his hand, saying she was “honored” to meet him.

Zardari then called her “gorgeous” and said: “Now I know why the whole of America is crazy about you.”

“You are so nice,” Palin said, smiling. “Thank you.”

A handler from Zardaris entourage then told the two politicians to keep shaking hands for the cameras.

“If hes insisting, I might hug,” Zardari said. Palin smiled politely.

The Alaska governor did not answer questions from reporters at her first two appearances on Wednesday, when she joined McCain in meetings with Georgian president Mikheil Saakashvili and Ukrainian president Viktor Yushchenko, and then traveled downtown to meet with Iraqi president Jalal Talabani.

But she did offer brief remarks to a reporter at the Zardari meeting who asked about her day.

“Its going great,” Palin said. “These meetings are very informative and helpful, and a lot of good people sharing appreciation for America.”

Officials said panic regarding a rumor of a lack of gas caused customers to to rush to the pumps.

“Everybody has just gone nuts,” said Mike Williams, executive director of the Tennessee Petroleum Council.

He said he has no idea about the origin of a rumor that there was going to be no gas in Nashville. One reporter called him, saying she had heard that Nashville would be without gas within the hour, he said.

Hearing the rumor, drivers rushed to fill their cars and trucks.

CNN called 13 Nashville gas stations at random. Only two reported having gas, and one said it was almost out. The stations said they were being told they would not get more until Monday or Tuesday.

Where have I been? I’ve been waiting in line to get gas- not to top it off- but I really needed gas. This is like a flashback to the 70′s- only worse. At least then you knew what day you could refuel your car. Now it’s just plain chaos. People have lost their minds.

All we need now is for a UFO to land in front of the Capital.

I got a suggestion- why don’t we all just sleep in tomorrow.

Ike was a Texas size hurricane. It was nearly 600 miles wide- most hurricanes are around 300 miles wide. But damaging winds and flooding aren’t the only thing Ike delivered. More than a day before Ike’s landfall- many people across the US began lining up at gas stations as panic over gas shortages and price hikes blew across the nation.

In Nashville there were long lines at most gas pumps. Station owners were asking customers to limit purchases to 10 gallons. Some stations had to close because they simply ran out of gas.

How far this panic has spread through the US- I’m not sure. There’s not much on the news about it yet. For now- all eyes and thoughts are on Texas.
